Survey of some plants utilized as feed by the Grasscutter (Thryonomys swinderianus Temminck) at Akpaka Forest Reserve, Onitsha, Nigeria.

Field studies were conducted for 10 months (September 2001 to June 2002) identify plans consumed by grasscutters in the wild ar Akpaka Forest reserve located at Latitude 6o 09'N and longitude 69o 47'E North eastern of Onitsha, Onitsha Local Government Area Anambra State. Twenty-two plant species observed be utilized as feed grasscutter forest reserve. Of these plants, fourteen grasses family gramineae, Three tuber crops, four fruits only one - Chromoleana odorata was a shrub (weed). Nine plants not documented earlier authors. Ten chosen analyzed both proximate mineral composition based on their food value, high level utilization abundance. The results showed that materials low crude protein, fibre, moisture nitrogen free extract also all minerals therefore may satisfy nutritional requirements animals improved productivity This paper recommend inclusion concentrate, vitamins diet grasscutters.
